Congratulations to all colleagues and alumni recognised in the 2020 New Year's Honours.
LSE-related recipients of awards this year include Professor Julia Black, Professor Lucinda Platt and Sanam Naraghi Anderlini.
Professor Julia Black was appointed CBE for her services to the study of law and regulation.
The Strategic Director for Innovation at LSE, Professor Black was previously the Pro Director for Research 2014-2019 and from 2016-17 served as LSE’s interim Director. She is currently leading on the implementation of the School's 2030 Strategy, on entrepreneurship and commercialisation activities, and led the development of the PhD Academy and the new School of Public Policy. A professor in the LSE’s Law Department and a fellow of the British Academy, her primary research interest is in regulation with a specialisation in financial services regulation and in the regulation of risk.
Professor Lucinda Platt, Professor of Social Policy and Sociology in the Department of Social Policy, was appointed OBE for her services to the social sciences.
Professor Platt's research and teaching focuses on inequalities. A quantitative sociologist, her work addresses inequalities relating to ethnicity and migration, gender and disability. She also works on identity, child poverty and the methodology and history of social surveys.
Sanam Naraghi Anderlini, the Director of LSE’s Centre for Women, Peace and Security (WPS), was appointed MBE for services to international peacebuilding and women’s rights.
A globally-recognised advocate in the field of women, peace and security, Sanam joined the School as the Director of LSE WPS in December 2019. She is the founder and CEO of the International Civil Society Action Network(ICAN) and was the 2014 recipient of the UN Association Perdita Huston Award for human rights and the 2016 Greeley Peace Scholar at the University of Massachusetts.
