Travel Information

Located in central London, LSE is easily accessible by a range of public transport including tube, rail and bus. Cycling and driving to LSE are also options. Please see Travelling to LSE for full details.

London Heathrow Airport (LHR)

Heathrow Express Trains

The fastest link between Heathrow and central London. Non-stop trains run to Paddington every 15 minutes, and journey time is 15 minutes from Terminals 2 and 3 (a few minutes more from Terminals 4 or 5).

London Underground

The most cost-effective rail route to London. Piccadilly Line trains run from all terminals and journey time is 50–60 minutes.

TfL Rail

Departing every 30 minutes, TfL Rail's service links the airport with local stations in West and Central London and the journey time is 30 minutes from Terminals 2 and 3.

National Express Coach

Coaches run throughout the day, offering journey times of 40–80 minutes to Victoria Coach Station (and many other destinations).

London Gatwick (LGW)

Gatwick Express Trains

Gatwick Express is the fastest way into Central London. Trains run every 15 minutes between Gatwick Airport's South Terminal and London Victoria Station. The journey time is 30 minutes and the service is non-stop to Victoria station.

Thameslink Trains

Thameslink provides direct trains from Gatwick Airport to Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon and St Pancras International that leave four times an hour.

Southern Trains

Southern also offers regular train services during the day from Gatwick to London Victoria via East Croydon and Clapham Junction.

National Express Coaches

National Express runs frequent services between Gatwick and Victoria Coach Station. Coaches run approximately every 30 minutes with a journey time of 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the time of day

Stansted (STN)

Stansted Express Trains

Stansted Express is the quickest way into central London. There are between two and four trains an hour, depending on the time of day, with a journey time of 45–50 minutes to Liverpool Street station.

National Express Coaches

National Express Coaches runs coaches to Victoria Coach Station (via Baker Street and Marble Arch), departing every 15–30 minutes, with a travel time of about 90 minutes, and to Liverpool Street (via Stratford), departing every 30 minutes and with a travel time of 80 minutes (50 minutes to Stratford)

Luton (LTN)

Train

There is a regular shuttle bus service between London Luton Airport terminal and Luton Airport Parkway (train station). The shuttle journey is approximately 10 mins. From the train station there are frequent trains to stations such as Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon and St Pancras International, with average travel times at 40 minutes.

National Express Coaches runs frequent coaches to Victoria Coach Station, with a travel time of about 80 minutes.

London City (LCY)

DLR and Tube
The airport has its own station — ‘London City Airport’ (Zone 3) — on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Trains from here connect with the underground (tube) network at:

  • Canning Town (for the Jubilee line)
  • Bank (for the Central & Northern lines)
  • Tower Gateway DLR (it’s a short walk to Tower Hill tube station for the District or Circle lines)
