Celebrating 25 years of the Hellenic Observatory at LSE, the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and LSE’s Kevin Featherstone discuss the challenges facing Greece and Europe. 

Is Greece on the path to a sustained economic recovery? How substantive have the reforms been? With elections due next year, and with recent controversies, political stability seems at a premium. What vision does the PM have for Greece? And, how are the geopolitics of the region changing? Where does Greece stand on the new issues facing a changing Europe?

Meet our speaker and chair

Kyriakos Mitsotakis (@PrimeministerGR) was elected Prime Minister of Greece in 2019, leading his party to victory on a platform for jobs, strong growth and lower taxes. Prior to this, he served as Minister of Administrative Reform and e-Government (2013-2015) and an MP since 2004. Before entering politics, he worked as a financial analyst, having graduated summa cum laude in Social Studies (Harvard University) and completing an MA International Relations (Stanford University) and an MBA (Harvard Business School).

Kevin Featherstone is Eleftherios Venizelos Professor in Contemporary Greek Studies, Professor in European Politics and Director of the Hellenic Observatory.

The Hellenic Observatory (@HO_LSE) is internationally recognised as one of the premier research centres on contemporary Greece and Cyprus. It engages in a range of activities, including developing and supporting academic and policy-related research; organisation of conferences, seminars and workshops; academic exchange through visiting fellowships and internships; as well as teaching at the graduate level through LSE's European Institute.
