Date and time: Tuesday 27 May, 2.00pm to 4.00pm
Location: Data Science Insitute, First floor Columbia House
Delivered by: Tom Graves, LSE Open Research Library Assistant with Lucy Lambe, LSE Open Research Librarian and other members of the LSE Open Research Library team
In this age of concerns about misinformation and public scrutiny of research, Open Research practices have emerged as a set of ways in which researchers can make their activities both more rigorous in the eyes of other academics, and more transparent to the general public.
A wide range of methods, tools, and policies have arisen surrounding this. However, there are many Open Research practices which are more suited to certain kinds of methods, topics, and disciplines than others.
This workshop aims to engage researchers in related fields in identifying which Open Research practices are most relevant to their methods, as well as introduce new areas of Open Research from other fields, which may help to further improve the transparency and rigour of research conducted at LSE.
The first forty minutes of this workshop will introduce some general topics on Open Research such as Open Access publication, Open Data, Pre-Registration, and CRediT taxonomy for authorship attribution. This section of the workshop would be particularly useful for those new to Open Research, or would like to “fill in the blanks”.
Following this, the remaining hour and twenty minutes will be an interactive workshop exploring the areas of open research most relevant to the research projects in your departments and disciplines, and collaboratively produce a general Open Research workflow(s) for areas of disciplinary and methodological similarity. In this part of the workshop, we welcome those who may be more experienced in Open Research already, but would like to share ideas about improving research practice.
