Dr Abenaa Owusu-Bempah was interviewed for new documentary, As We Speak. The documentary, which premiered at the Sundance film festival in January and is now streaming on Paramount Plus, explores the growing weaponisation of rap lyrics in the United States and the UK, revealing how law enforcement has quietly used artistic creation as evidence in criminal cases for decades. Dr Owusu-Bempah also recently talked to France 24 about her research on ‘rap evidence’ and the Art Not Evidence campaign, which is advocating for law reform to restrict the admissibility of creative expression as evidence in criminal trials.
