Orla Lynskey-2016

Dr Orla Lynskey recently gave evidence to the House of Commons Human Rights Select Committee on the data protection and privacy implications of the government's contact tracing app. She cautioned that, as currently designed, the app is vulnerable to data security breaches and mission creep. She argued in favour of the adoption of a more privacy-friendly 'decentralised' app and legislation to detail the application of core data protection principles and to safeguard against potential abuses. This evidence appeared on BBC News 24 (4 May 2020) and in the press (Daily Telegraph; Daily Mail, 5 May 2020).
