Professor Emily Jackson featured in the FT yesterday, commenting on the Nuffield Council on Bioethics’ report on genome editing.

She says:

“No one has given the “green light to designer babies”, despite what some coverage of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics’ report on genome editing has suggested. It is still unlawful to use genetically modified embryos in treatment in the UK.

Not only is legislative change many years away, but any new rules would strictly regulate and limit the use of genome editing. The purpose of the Nuffield report is to “open the door” to nothing more than an informed public debate.”
