Professor Julia Black has been appointed to the Bank of England's Prudential Regulation Committee, which regulates financial institutions, along with investment banker Jill May.

“Julia’s extensive knowledge of financial regulation and Jill's impressive career will be valuable assets to the vital work of the Committee,” Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond said in a statement.

"Julia is already contributing to improve how markets operate, having joined the SONIA oversight committee," noted Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England. "Her deep knowledge of financial markets regulation will now be a valuable addition to the PRC."

Professor Black will begin her membership of the Committee in November.
