Welcome to the LSE and the Department of International Relations!

Below you will find all of the information you need for your arrival, and to help you settle in.

How to find us

We are located on the 8th, 9th and 10th floors of the new Centre Building, Houghton Street, at the heart of the main LSE campus.

Registration

If you’re a new student joining us this year, registration is compulsory. Visit New Student Programme Registration to find out when your registration takes place, and what documents you’ll need. 

LSE School Welcome events

There are lots of presentations and activities during your first weeks.

LSE Welcome presentations are compulsory for all new students. Please see the Welcome Presentations for full details of date, time and location.

International Relations Department Welcome events

Join us for Welcome 2019 and the wide variety of sessions listed below to help you get settled in the Department. Make sure you attend the Welcome Meeting for your programme, as here you will find out everything you need to know and have the chance to meet academic faculty and your peers.

Details of orientation sessions, plus other breakfasts, coffee mornings, drop-in sessions and other events will be sent out to you nearer the time, so keep an eye on your inbox!

We also have Welcome packs containing sustainable goodies for our arriving students, so please see further down the page for the drop-in times to collect them.

For MPhil/PhD students

Beginning Your PhD: What to expect from the year ahead
International Relations PhD Orientation (new students only)

Please only attend the orientation meeting for the course for which you have been accepted. Occasionally some graduate students accept a place on a programme in the hope of changing their course of study on arrival. Please note that this is only allowed in exceptional circumstances and should be discussed with your academic mentor.

Arriving students - come and collect your Welcome pack!

Attention all incoming MSc students, and all incoming BSc students (both single and joint honours) - you can come and collect merchandise!

In addition to the events above, we’re also putting on sessions when you can come and collect your Welcome packs from us (which are available for both single honours and joint honours students). These contain lots of useful information, in addition to your IR hoodie and some other items to set you off on the right foot at LSE. The IR Department is very focussed on sustainability, so all of these items meet the highest sustainability standards.

You need to bring your LSE ID Card to collect your Welcome bag - no card, no bag!

You will need to submit your offer holder number for admission to the Facebook groups. This number can be found on all LSE correspondence to you, including your offer holder letter.
