Welcome to LSE | 23 - 27 September 2019

When you arrive at LSE you'll find lots of opportunities to meet new friends, learn more about studying here and make yourself at home in London.

Join us for Welcome 2019!

We’re very pleased to have you here and have put on various sessions to help you get settled in the Department. Make sure you attend the School’s Welcome presentation and the Department’s induction to find out everything you need to know and have the chance to meet academic faculty and your peers.

The information below is important. Further reminders of all the sessions will be sent out to you nearer the time, so keep an eye on your inbox!

 

Programme Registration

To get you up and running at LSE! Your programme registration slot is:

Monday 23 September

General Course: Family Names beginning A to L - 09:30 – 10:15

General Course: Family Names beginning M to Z - 10:15 – 11:00

Venue: Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House, ground floor. To get there: the entrance is next to the Post Office on the Strand)

Tuesday 24 September

BSc Politics 13:00-13:30

BSc Politics and Economics 13:00-13:30

BSc Politics and International Relations 13:30-14:00

BSc Politics and History 13:30-14:00

BSc Politics and Philosophy 13:30-14:00

Venue: Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House, ground floor).

 

Welcome Meetings

To get help you meet fellow students and learn essential LSE information!

This is all the important stuff and you are expected to attend unless otherwise stated.

  • LSE Welcome Presentation, Monday 23 September, 10:00-11:30 in the Peacock Theatre, Portugal Street.

    (To get there: turn off Kingsway and you’ll see the theatre).
  • General Course Departmental Induction, Monday 23 September, 14:00-15:00 in room NAB 2.14, New Academic Building. 

    (To get there: either from Kingsway or opposite Lincoln’s Inn Fields). 

    This meeting is an introduction to the Government Department for General Course students only. Come and find out about us and what to expect from the year ahead.
  • LSE General Course Welcome Presentation, Monday 23 September, 15:30-17:00 in the Peacock Theatre, Portugal Street.
  • BSc Programme breakfast ‘Mix and Mingle’ sessions, Tuesday 24 September, 09:45-10:45.

    Come and meet fellow students on your programme and start to build your LSE community! The breakfasts take place before the Departmental induction (details below). We’re going to ask some second and third year students to attend your breakfast so you’ll have the chance to chat and ask any questions you may have. Tea, coffee, pastries, fruit will be served!

    o    BSc Politics programme: room NAB 2.14 (New Academic Building)

  • Government Department Undergraduate Induction (1st Year BSc students only), Tuesday 24 September, 11:00-12:30 in the Old Theatre, Old Building.

    (To get there: enter from LSE’s main thoroughfare Houghton Street).

    This is about settling in. You’ll hear from faculty and from speakers from key School services and have the opportunity to ask any questions. It is extremely important for you to attend your induction. If you cannot be there, let the Undergraduate Programmes team, Carla and Claire know as soon as possible. Email us at gov.ug@lse.ac.uk

Social Events

To have a break from information over-load! 

Government Department’s Early Birds and London Locals social, 14:00 – 15:30 Friday 20 September, venue: CBG 1.05, Centre Building.

(To get there: the building is at the end of LSE’s main thoroughfare Houghton Street).

This is for you if you live at home in or near London and plan to commute to LSE this year rather than live in Halls, as well as anyone who has arrived early in London. Come and meet up and get to know each other before Welcome starts!

 

Government Department’s Undergraduate Welcome Reception, BSc and General Course students:  

16:00, Tuesday 24 September, venue: Senior Dining Room, Old Building.

(To get there: enter from LSE’s main thoroughfare Houghton Street).

Join us for drinks and nibbles with your peers and faculty from the Government Department against the backdrop of LSE’s historic Senior Dining Room.

The new Centre Building (CBG) is at the end of LSE’s main thoroughfare Houghton Street.

Masters

Programme Registration & Welcome Meetings

MSc programmes registration takes place on Friday 20 September 2019 in the Hong Kong Theatre. The Welcome Meeting and programme inductions take place on Monday 23 September 2019. Download our MSc Welcome Week schedule for full details of events for your programme.

It is extremely important for you to attend your programme induction. If you are unable to attend, you should inform your programme administrator (gov.msc@lse.ac.uk) as soon as possible.

Social Events

You are invited to join the MSc Welcome Reception for drinks and nibbles on Monday 23 September, 18:15-20:00 in The Venue, Saw Swee Hock Centre. Please see our MSc Welcome Week schedule or your specific MSc programme's schedule for further details.

Provisional LSE Timetable

LSE will publish its provisional Lecture and Seminar Timetable for 2019/0 once available. This will be subject to late revision so please check it regularly for updates

Research Programme Registration

MRes/PhD in Political Science, Thursday 26 September 2019, 12:45-13:30, Hong Kong Theatre (Clement House, ground floor)

Welcome Meetings

New research students are expected to attend all of these Welcome meetings unless otherwise stated.

  • LSE Welcome Presentation, Monday 23 September 2019, 15:00-16:30 in The Peacock Theatre, Portugal Street (just off Kingsway)

  • New PhD welcome session and party (for upgraded PhD 1st years only, MRes students do not need to attend), Wednesday 25 September, 14:00-15:00 in PAN G.01 (followed by drinks in the PhD Academy, LRB 4.02)

  • Department of Government MRes in Political Science: Programme Orientation, Thursday 26 September 2019, 09:30-12:00 in 32 Lincoln's Inn Fields (32L) LG.02 (tea, coffee and pastries will be served at the start of the session)
