For Incoming Uggla Family Scholars
Please note that this is not a full scholarship.
Home fee status students approximately have a remaining £5,000 of tuition fees to pay to the School each year. Many Home fee status students do this by either:
- using a portion of their maintenance stipend from the Programme, or
- by undertaking part-time paid work, or
- by taking out a Tuition Fee Loan from the UK Government. Please check the relevant websites below for the latest information depending on where you live in the UK:
Student Finance England
Student Finance Wales
Student Awards Agency Scotland
Student Finance Northern Ireland
Overseas fee status students will have the remaining costs of their tuition fees covered by LSE's . More information can be found here.
More information can be found on our '' pages.
Students are not required to take out a student loan, but it is required that you ensure that your tuition fees are paid on time.
Therefore, it is up to you whether you would like to apply for a Tuition Fee Loan to cover the remaining costs of your tuition fees, or find alternative sources of funding to cover the costs.
Receiving external funding from a different organisation does not automatically disqualify you from becoming an Uggla Family Scholar.
However, all external funding that a student receives beyond the Uggla Family Scholarship must be discussed and approved by the Programme Manager and the LSE Financial Support Office.
The maintenance stipends are paid in the first week of each term. The first two payments are larger amounts than the final payment each year, so students must plan ahead to ensure they save money from their stipends for larger payments in the summertime like accommodation costs or deposits
The amount received depends on whether you are a Home fee status student or Overseas fee status student as Overseas students will also receive a travel stipend.
If you are an international student, please note that you may experience delays initially when creating/setting up a UK bank account for the first time. This may take up to four weeks so please do plan for this in your preparations.
All Uggla Family Scholars will need to have a UK bank account set up in their name. You would need to have this set up before you receive your first payment.
Please note that payments cannot be made into bank accounts of parents/family members etc. Payments can only be made into bank accounts set up under the name of the student in receipt of the Uggla Family Scholarship.
More information about setting up a UK bank account can be found here.
Academic excellence is one of the key values of the Programme. Although there is no minimum grade requirement, students are expected to communicate their progress often to the Programme Manager and may also be asked by the donor on their progress.
The purpose of this will be to support the Scholar where needed and to prevent an interruption of studies or academic probation. Scholars are also supported by the Academic Mentorship from Dr. Grace Lordan and staff from The Inclusion Initiative. Find out more about the support throughout your studies as part of the Programme.
If you have further questions about becoming part of the Programme, please contact Jonathan Plummer (Uggla Family Scholars Programme Manager) at J.Plummer@lse.ac.uk.
