Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme

LSE is pleased to confirm participation in the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJWBGSP) for the 2024/25 session.

These scholarships are generously funded by the Government of Japan and administered by The World Bank Group. Applications are welcomed from citizens of over 90 eligible developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts, who are applying to one of the eligible programmes listed below.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent undergraduate university degree) earned at least three years before the date of application, and must have at least three years of paid development-related employment since graduating.

Eligibility

The scholarships are available to offer holders on the following LSE master's programmes:

At the application stage, applicants must also demonstrate and provide the following:

  • Must be citizens of one of the eligible developing countries.
  • Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree
  • Provide two professional recommendations from people who have direct knowledge of your professional work experience

Scholarship amount

Multiple scholarships are available.

Each scholarship will provide the full cost of tuition fees for the eligible programme and provide a maintenance stipend for living costs. In addition, economy class air travel to and from your home country will be arranged on your behalf, at the start of your programme and immediately following the end of the scholarship period.

How to apply

To apply for this scholarship, you must have:

  • applied for admission to study at LSE; see How to apply
  • received an unconditional offer of admission
  • completed the JJWBGSP application form by the deadline of 12:00 noon (EST) on 24 May 2024. 

    Eligible candidates will be emailed a link to the JJ/WBGSP online application from financial-support@lse.ac.uk throughout March, April and May as unconditional offers are made to those who meet the programme and country criteria. If you think you meet the eligibility criteria but have not received the email from LSE containing the application link, please email: financial-support@lse.ac.uk
