In addition to School-wide welcome activities, the Department has scheduled programme-specific events during Welcome Week (21-25 September 2026), as well as before and after that week, depending on your programme. All events will take place on campus unless otherwise noted. Events listed below will also available on the Student Hub App in due course.

Welcome events for undergraduates in the Department of Statistics!

Join classmates from across LSE to celebrate becoming part of LSE. You'll hear about what LSE can offer you from President Larry Kramer, Vice President for Education Emma McCoy, and Students' Union General Secretary Amara Jane Otero Salgado. Please remember to bring your LSE ID or your pre-enrolment letter to enter the Peacock Theatre and arrive no more than 5 mins early.

It is very important that you attend campus enrolment.This is compulsory for you to attend. This takes place in-person and is where we will check your official documents, including passport and visa.
Once you have completed campus enrolment, you will be issued your LSE Card, giving you access to campus and on-campus teaching and services.

Meet Statistics Careers Consultant Daniel Gendle to see how to make the most of careers services: source information, book appointments and events, access exclusive resources, optimise your job search. Come with your most pressing questions too! This is an optional attendance event.
This event will be particularly useful if you: want to make the most of all careers services available to you and would like to get advice or to ask questions about careers.
Attending this event will enable you to: get an overview of all careers services, resources, and events dedicated to Statistics students and get answers to some of your career-related questions.

Professor Zoltan Szabo is offering a (free!) Linux mini-course. The event will have a one hour talk, 10 mins break, 1h talk, 20 mins Q&A format and will cover the following:
Title: Getting Started with Linux
Abstract: The now 35-year-old Linux operating system designed from ground up to respect users' freedom provides an easy-to-use, off-the-shelf alternative to proprietary solutions (such as Windows and macOS) while also allowing a versatile, sustainable, secure, and privacy-respecting operation for instance on desktops PCs / laptops, in home automation, on mobiles, on paper-like tablets, or in the context of research computing on a cluster. The aim of this mini-course is to help you get started along this journey. After a short historical background, we will touch upon choosing among Linux variants (so-called distributions), hints on installation, applications for common tasks, and ricing.
You are welcome to join upon interest, note that sign up will be required. Details will be provided.

The event will include talks from your programme directors and a talk from recent graduates on "sharing tips about studying at LSE and other advice" plus it will end with a fun and informal reception/networking opportunity and of course a chance to catch up with friends! This is a talk by Programme Director(s) to welcome back second-year BSc students and with some important advice and information about their second-year of studies, and Q&A by students. This session is led by Christine and Xiaolin.

Complete your Consent.Ed training! This is compulsory for you to attend.
Our Consent.Ed programme gives you the tools you need to become an active bystander and make positive decisions about your relationships.
It is expected that you and everyone in the LSE community takes part in Consent.Ed. Level 1 and Level 2 should be completed by all students.
You will need to:
- Complete Level 1: your online training - before you arrive on campus.
- Complete Level 2: an in-person workshop that every BSc student in the Department of Statistics must attend. See below.

Level 2 sessions will form part of your departmental induction. This will be a 90-minute workshop attended alongside your department peers. In this session you will explore issues around sexual consent, providing an opportunity to discuss how we can look for one another and create a positive, respectful consent culture, where everyone feels safe on campus.
