Industry Speakers
Industry Speaker Programme
Our Industry Speaker Programme connects the Department with leading organisations across finance, technology, energy, consulting, government and a range of analytical professions. These sessions bring real-world practice directly into the Department and create opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange and professional development.
We run two dedicated speaker series throughout the year:
Industry Impact Speaker Series (hosted by Dr Zoltan Szabo)
This series invites senior professionals, technical leaders and applied researchers from industry to present cutting-edge challenges, innovations and case studies. Sessions often include 1-to-1 meetings with academics, exploratory research discussions and opportunities to build long-term partnerships.
Statistics Insight Seminar Series (hosted by Dr Pik Liew)
Designed for students, this series showcases how statistics and data science are applied across different sectors. Speakers share practical insights, career advice and sector-specific perspectives, helping students understand the professional landscape and develop future pathways.
Industry Visits
Alongside in-house seminars, we also organise visits to partner organisations across London. These visits give students and staff the opportunity to see industry practice first-hand, meet data teams in their own environment and explore how statistical and analytical skills are used in real projects. Visits often include office tours, project demonstrations and discussions with analysts, managers and graduate recruiters.
Ongoing Engagement
Beyond the two formal series and industry visits, the Department also hosts one-off talks, networking events and collaborative meetings throughout the year. These activities help maintain strong connections with external organisations and ensure our research and teaching remain informed by current professional practice.
