Prepare to study with us

Key resources and information to help you prepare for your MSc and studying with us in the Department of Sociology

Term Dates
LSE has three terms: Autumn Term, Winter Term and Spring Term. We recommend you familiarise yourself with the term dates. We expect students to arrive in time for Welcome (the week before the Autumn term starts) in order to attend enrolment and key department events. All students are expected to attend all teaching, and LSE's regulations state that attendance is mandatory

LSE Calendar
The calendar is published for use by LSE staff and students. Its purpose is to gather together into a single resource regulations relating to students and their studies. You must review the regulations relating to students and your studies when enrolling at LSE.

Programme Regulations
Each programme has its own set of programme regulations, which govern which courses students are allowed to take. Some courses will be compulsory, and some will be optional or offer a selection to choose from. You should adhere to your programme regulations, and use them as a guide to plan which courses you'll be selecting in your degree. You should follow the programme regulations set in your year of entry. For example, if you are studying with us in the 2025-26 academic year, you will follow the 2025 programme regulations.

Available Courses
We offer an extensive list of courses, and publish their availability in August for the next academic year. Explore our courses and their availability.
