About

Dr. Weng Kin San is an assistant professor in philosophy. His research interests are primarily in ethics, decision theory, and their intersection.

Broadly, his work investigates considerations that might make one way of distributing value-across people (in ethics) or across possible states (in decision theory)-preferable to another. His research makes use of tools and results from mathematics and economics to help shed light on these issues.

Prior to joining the LSE, Dr. San spent time as a postdoctoral fellow at New York University. Before that, he studied at the University of Southern California, the University of Oxford, the National University of Singapore, and the Australian National University.

Research Interests

  • Distributive ethics, especially theories of aggregation and challenges for utilitarianism
  • Decision theory, especially risk aversion and challenges for expected utility theory
  • Representation theorems and philosophical issues surrounding the use of numbers in ethics and decision theory
