About

Vlad started his Visiting Research Student Stay at the Department of Gender Studies in 2026. His research project investigates the social and political discourse analysis in autobiographical literature written by queer immigrants in the United States. Vlad is theoretically grounded in post-structural identity formation theories, which intersect with pre-discursive affective approaches that could assist him with exploring how the queer identity is constituted in queer immigrants who often experience double marginalization.

Vlad holds an MA in English Studies: Professional Application and Intercultural Communication from the University of Almería (2023), an MA in International Business (2022) and a BA in International Economic Relations from Sumy State University (2021). He has also been awarded a Global UGRAD Program scholarship that is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and completed it at the University of Houston-Victoria (2019).

Vlad worked on different educational projects and with NGOs, including the “Centre for Euroinitiatives”, the Info Center ERASMUS+ Youth and European Solidarity Corps in Ukraine, and Mitacas Ukraine. These experiences allowed him to witness firsthand the realities of migration and marginalization, giving him valuable insight for his PhD research.

His research interests include: discourse analysis; queer theory; autobiographical literature; memory and trauma studies; migration and belonging; post-structuralism; affect theory.
