Research
Sophie’s research examines how gender norms evolve in urban post-conflict societies and how different methods can effectively capture this change. Her doctoral thesis used a nested mixed-methods design to investigate changes and continuities in gender norms that shape the household division of labour in Medellín, Colombia's urban periphery.
Drawing on secondary data from the World Values Survey, household surveys, qualitative interviews, and long-term ethnographic fieldwork, she critically assessed what each method reveals about change and persistence. Sophie also has a strong interest in participatory approaches, particularly games-based methods, to support collective processes of popular education and community resistance.
