Dr Soha Alterkait is a Visiting Fellow at the LSE Middle East Centre, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Jurisprudence and Islamic Studies at Kuwait International Law School (KILAW), and a commercial arbitrator at the Kuwait Commercial Arbitration Centre. Her research focuses on Islamic economics, particularly in the fields of Islamic finance, investment, waqf (endowment), and sustainable philanthropy, as well as their intersections with financial technology (fintech) and artificial intelligence.

She obtained her PhD in Development Studies from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom (Islamic Finance Unit scholarship – Kuwait University). She also holds an MA in Islamic Finance from Durham University, United Kingdom (Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation scholarship), a second Master’s degree in Information Technology from the School of Graduate Studies at Kuwait University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sharia (specialising in Usul al-Fiqh) from the College of Sharia, Kuwait University.

She has over 20 years of experience at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs in Kuwait and more than four years of academic experience, including curriculum development and conference management, as well as serving as Head of the Office of Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation, and as an international and national coordinator.

She teaches the Islamic Financial Transactions Systems course and Islamic endowment (waqf) within the Contemporary Legal Issues course at Kuwait International Law School.
