About
Shireen is a PhD candidate in the Department of International Relations and a recipient of the LSE PhD Studentship. Her research interests lie at the intersection of Feminist IR, Gender and Nationalism, Queer and Trans theory, Postcolonial Theory, and Popular Culture, specifically in South Asia.
Specifically, she is interested in the ambivalences inherent in Indian (gendered) nationalist imaginations, and how transitional periods of a postcolonial nation impact those. In the contemporary moment, she is interested in the rising salience of Hindu nationalism in India and the accompanied shifts in these gendered nationalist imaginations. She locates these shifts particularly in popular culture, especially the Hindi Film Industry (or Bollywood).
She also co-convened the Doing International Political Sociology (DoingIPS) London PhD Seminar Series (2024/25).
Shireen completed a Dual-Master’s from Sciences Po, Paris (Master’s in International Security) and LSE (MSc International Relations). She received the Charpak AME Scholarship by Campus France for her Master’s at Sciences Po. She holds a BA (Honours) Political Science from Miranda House, Delhi University.
