About

Remco Heesen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method. Before joining LSE, he has worked at the University of Western Australia, the University of Groningen, and the University of Cambridge, after receiving his PhD from Carnegie Mellon University in 2016. He is also an LSE alumnus (MSc, 2010).

Heesen’s research analyses the social structure of science using a combination of philosophical analysis and formal methods. Main areas of focus have been the ‘credit economy’ of science (the epistemic consequences of scientists’ need to build a reputation for original and important work), problems with the system of journal peer review, and epistemic issues in evidence-based policymaking. More information about his research and publications can be found at the personal website linked on this page.
