About

Dr Lee Rowland is an applied psychologist and behavioural scientist who has worked in the field for over 17 years. He received his PhD in experimental psychology from UCL in 2005, and after a short stint in academic teaching and research, he moved into consultancy in the early days of applied behavioural science in government and business. His work has mainly involved conducting large scale mixed-methods field studies of human social behaviour, such as that involved in conflict and co-operation.

Lee has worked widely with defence and security organisations on problems relating to violent extremism and/or political violence. By contrast he also spent several years researching prosocial behaviour and kindness, helping to publish the first meta-analysis on the effects on wellbeing of prosocial behaviour, as well as experimental studies on helping others. He currently works as a lecturer / trainer in behavioural science for various organisations, as well as carrying out research on behavioural change. On the academic research front, Lee is working with members of LSE's Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science on projects of transformative behaviour change.
