Dr Haya Alhusainan is a Visiting Fellow at the LSE Middle East Centre. Haya is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at Kuwait University, specialising in climatology, climate change, and environmental sustainability in arid environments.
Her research focuses on extreme heat, climate adaptation, climate risk assessment, and the interactions between climate, energy, and society in arid regions, with a particular emphasis on Kuwait and the Gulf region. Her work integrates geospatial analysis, climate modelling, and long-term observational data to support evidence-based adaptation, resilience, and sustainable development strategies.
Beyond academia, Dr Alhusainan is actively engaged in climate policy and sustainability initiatives, contributing to regional and international discussions through collaborations with organisations such as the UN and NATO.
