About

Dominic is a PhD researcher working in philosophy of physics and philosophy of science; prior to being at LSE he has a background in physics from Imperial College London and made the switch to philosophy when he came to do the MSc Philosophy of Science course here at LSE.

His main project aims to look at and understand the relationship between quantum mechanics and statistical mechanics; he looks at how and where probability gets introduced in these two fields and look to eigenstate thermalisation hypothesis, canonical typicality, decoherence, and the semi-classical limit to understand the links between classical and quantum statistical mechanics. In doing so, he looks to both equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.

More broadly he is interested in reduction and emergence in philosophy of science, especially in relation to probabilities and philosophy of probability more generally. He also has a keen interest in decision theory and revealed preference theory, especially in relation to hard decisions and uncertainty, as well as philosophy of gender.
