LSE podcast and film win at the Lovie Awards

The LSE iQ podcast and a film produced by LSE’s Film and Audio team have received prizes at the 2025 Lovie Awards, which recognise European internet excellence in the fields of culture, technology and business.
The LSE iQ podcast, produced by a small team in the LSE Communications Division, was named a Silver Lovie Winner in the Best Branded Podcast category.
In addition, a film produced by the Division’s Film and Audio team Wealth, influence, and class: the British elite explained was named a Silver Lovie Winner in the Film and Video: Science & Education category. The film, based on research by Professor Aaron Reeves and Professor Sam Friedman, also won the People’s vote in the same category.
LSE iQ is a monthly podcast where LSE academics, and other experts, answer one pressing question per episode about economics, politics or society. It has rapidly gained a large following since it was launched in April 2017.
Alongside expert insight, the podcast also tells the stories of "ordinary" people – showing how academic research relates to the world beyond the "ivory towers".
The podcast has a global audience with listeners tuning in from the United States, India and Hong Kong.
Recent episodes explore ‘Will AI free us from work?’, ‘How is the far-right shaping our future?’ and ‘How do we avoid falling for online scams?’
Sue Windebank, one of the co-producers of the LSE iQ podcast, said: “International recognition at the Lovie Awards is a testament to the incredible work put in by the LSE iQ team over the past eight years.
“It also reflects the generosity of the many academics and contributors who’ve shared their time and expertise to help us explore a wide range of topics, from online scams to the environmental impact of AI.
“From the outset, our aim was to create something for people that might not think that a podcast about the social sciences was necessarily for them. We hope this award encourages even more people to give it a listen.”
LSE iQ won ‘Best branded podcast’ at the Independent Podcast Awards last year and won two awards at the 2019 HEIST Awards for marketing innovation in further and higher education. In addition, it won the Guardian University Award in 2018 for ‘Best marketing and comms campaign’ and was shortlisted in the Education category at the British Podcast Awards 2025.
Videos from the LSE Film and Audio team have received global recognition from the United Nations and National Geographic, as well as being recognised at the Heist Awards and Learning on Screen awards.
The podcast is available for download on LSE’s website as well as SoundCloud and all major podcast apps.
LSE’s films produced by the Film and Audio team can be viewed on LSE Player and LSE’s YouTube channel.
