LSE Generate, the School’s home for entrepreneurship, has been recognised as the top university start-up hub in the UK, securing its spot in the latest rankings by the Financial Times for the third year running.

The 2026 edition of Europe’s leading start-up hubs places LSE Generate in 26th position overall among the continent’s leading centres providing business incubator and accelerator programmes. This ranking highlights the crucial role LSE Generate plays in guiding early-stage founders in the country towards innovation, skill development and ultimately, impactful ventures.

This year’s ranking, curated by the Financial Times in co-operation with Statista and Sifted, covers 180 centres across 25 countries, taking into account insights from investors, entrepreneurs and academics as well as the success-rate among those graduating from contending hubs.

The UK was named home to the most winners overall, alongside Germany and Spain, featuring 28 hubs on the list and reinforcing the UK’s strong position in the European start-up landscape.

Commenting on the achievement, Head of LSE Generate LJ Silverman said: “This recognition from the Financial Times signals something much bigger than a ranking for us at LSE. It affirms that universities can - and should - be more than knowledge keepers; they can be venture builders, collapsing that distance between ideas and real-world impact.

“At Generate, we’re not just supporting start-ups but actively exploring and contributing to the redesign of what a university can be in an ever-changing and increasingly complex world.”

Over the past year, the School’s hub for entrepreneurship has been busy expanding its breadth of opportunities, having launched a series of initiatives, broadened international footprints with its latest wing in Berlin, and celebrated recognition at leading enterprise and education events in both the UK and Europe.

Last month, it inaugurated the LSE Generate Fellowship Programme - a refresher to the hub’s former GAP accelerator - which is designed to offer greater flexibility to 48 early-stage founders within the LSE community on an annual basis.
