LSE and NYU announce first awards for Joint Research Seed Funding

LSE and New York University (NYU) are delighted to announce awards for eight new collaborative research projects, each led by faculty from both institutions.
The announcement of the awards follows the March 2025 launch of the inaugural LSE-NYU Research Seed Fund, which sought proposals to advance world-class research collaborations in selected areas of study. The fund seeks to promote critical research, foster important international collaborations, and promote excellence and impact at both LSE and NYU.
In response to the launch, we received 20 proposals across three thematic areas of shared interest: (1) Data Science, AI, and Society; (2) Political Science; and (3) Sustainable Growth - with eight exceptional projects selected.

It is inspiring to see colleagues from our two institutions come together on such ambitious projects, and I look forward to the discoveries and impact they will generate across disciplines.
"At a moment when international collaboration is more crucial than ever -particularly in areas such as AI, sustainable growth and political science - these partnerships give me real optimism that we can rise to the great challenges facing our societies."
Dr Nina Gray, Associate Vice Provost for Research, NYU, added, "The inaugural round of LSE-NYU research seed funding reflects the remarkable potential of transatlantic collaboration.
"We’re proud to support projects that not only advance critical research, but also deepen the ties between our institutions. I’m excited to see the impact of their work unfold and to continue to spark bold, collaborative research across institutions and borders with future rounds of funding."
The joint fund is part of a larger collaboration between LSE and NYU, which also includes student-exchange and a dual master’s degree programme in Media, Culture and Global Cities announced last month.
