Reza Omidi’s research focuses on social inequalities, solidarity, political economy, and social policy developments in Iran. Recently, he has extended his studies in welfare regime and social protection system in the Middle East. In his master's thesis, he focused on the influence of the global development discourse and international political environment on the Iran's development plans (1940s-2000s). In his PhD's thesis (2010-2014), he studied the discursive and structural conflicts in shaping the social welfare system in Iran.
He has worked with several public and civil society entities, including Plan and Budget Organisation of Iran (PBO), University of Tehran- Department of Social Policy, Social Security Organisation Research Institute (SSORI), Civil Institute for Combating Poverty and Inequality, and University of Kassel- Germany (GPN).
