Ailsa Land Prize
Professor Ailsa Land (1927-2021) was a Professor of Operational Research at LSE.

Professor Ailsa Land received her PhD in 1956 under the supervision of George Morton. In pioneering work with Alison Doig, she introduced the branch-and-bound method in 1960, which remains central to commercial solvers and is now one of the most widely recognised methods in optimisation.

The prize is awarded annually to the student achieving the best overall performance on the MSc Operations Research & Analytics programme. It consists of £250 and a book selected by the Department, with the recipient chosen by the Sub-Board of Examiners.
