Professor Igor Stramignoni delivers closing keynote on the globalisation of the common law in Paris

Tuesday 7 July 2026

LSE Law School's Professor Igor Stramignoni delivered the closing keynote address at the international conference The Globalisation of the Common Law, held at Université Paris Cité on 25–26 June 2026.

Bringing together academics, judges and legal practitioners from across Europe, the United States, Africa and China, the two-day conference explored the evolving role of the common law in a global context.

Professor Stramignoni was invited to conclude the conference with a keynote lecture entitled The Globalisation of the Common Law: An Experiment, reflecting on the conference's central themes and contributing to discussions on the future of the common law in an increasingly blustery world. Drawing from his research on what he calls “images of law”, Professor Stramignoni asked what happens when juridical authority historically grounded in text and ritual action, play or belief becomes unbound, that is, symbolically transformed into globally circulating icons evoking yet no longer representing such authority in the normal way.

The conference provided a forum for international dialogue on comparative law and legal traditions, bringing together leading voices from across academia and legal practice.
