Professor Andrew Murray discusses regulation of AI with MPs and civil servants

Andrew Murray-2015

Professor Andrew Murray has been engaging with a range of stakeholders this term, discussing the regulation of AI and information technology. In October, he hosted a dinner for invited guests at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham. The dinner was organised by the LSE Public Affairs Team and saw fourteen guests including four MPs and one Peer discuss how the UK should approach the regulation of AI. In November, he spoke to an invited audience of UK civil servants, legal and technological specialists exploring the legal/regulatory risk of metaverse as an emerging technology. He discussed both technical aspects of the metaverse and regulatory risks and challenges, contemplating the need for possible law reform. More recently, Professor Murray addressed members of the Online Safety Bill Committee on Wednesday 7 December. He spoke about concerns for the scope and application of the Bill with MPs. The Online Safety Bill is currently before a second Commons Committee Stage before moving to the House of Lords in January. On the same day, he also addressed the LSE’s Westminster Reception hosted by the Director Baroness Minouche Shafik.
