About me

Dr Aduragbemi Banke-Thomas is a Research Fellow and holder of an AXA Future Research Fellowship. As part of his fellowship, he is leading research aimed at mapping the geographical coverage of critical maternal health service in the megacity of Lagos, Nigeria. More broadly, his research has been focused on exploring issues on and strategies to optimise cost and cost-effectiveness, geographical access and quality of maternal, newborn and reproductive health care in sub-Saharan Africa. With the Department of Health Policy, he has previously convened the Health Systems and Policies in Developing Countries (HP403) and contributed to the Financing Health Care (HP401) and Health Care Economic Evaluation (HP422) modules for regular and executive studies. Dr Banke-Thomas is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health. He is also an honorary lecturer at the University of Liverpool.

Dr Banke-Thomas completed his medical degree from Lagos State University, Nigeria. He went on to complete his postgraduate training as part of the double-degree awarding Erasmus Mundus Europubhealth programme, during which he was awarded his Master of Public Health with distinction at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom and a second Master of Health Policy and Programme Management, at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Santé Publique, Rennes, France and Sciences Po, Rennes, France. He subsequently completed his PhD at the University of Liverpool/Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine during which he pioneered the application of the social return on investment methodology to assess the value for money of a maternal health intervention.
