About me

As a global health policy researcher using qualitative methods for health policy research, Dr. Jones’ work focuses mainly on policy and governance issues involving collaboration between the health sector and other sectors. Her research expertise includes using theories of the policy process to analyse intersectoral processes at various levels of policy-making. Dr. Jones received her PhD from the School of Public Health at the University of Montreal in 2018. Her doctoral research operationalised synthesis theories to explore processes and that structured collaboration and power relations in national policy arenas to coordinate global health strategies in Norway and Switzerland.

Since 2018, Dr Jones has been working on several collaborative research projects for strengthening health sciences research and health research systems in Africa. Building the case for investment in health sciences research in Africa aims to learn about how health research systems develop and what supports their growth at the national level, and the roles played by regional organisations in strengthening health research systems on the continent. Dr Jones led a knowledge exchange and impact project that engaged decision-makers and stakeholders in three countries to examine the implications of findings for their processes to strengthen health research systems in their contexts. Most recently, Dr. Jones has worked on an international review of research funding organisations to identify lessons and models of relevance for a regional research funding body in Africa.

Her research has been published in leading health and policy journals, including Social Science & Medicine, Policy Sciences, Health Policy and Planning, International Journal of Health Policy and Management, Health Research Policy and Systems, and BMJ Global Health.

Dr Jones has contributed to policy and practice relevant research products through consultancies for the World Health Organization and the World Bank on intersectoral governance for health equity and health in all policies. Prior to working in academia, Dr Jones was Programme Director for the International Union for Health Promotion and Education.
