WHO's new Pandemic Hub: building global institutions at a time of polylateralism

Hassan Damluji, a Senior Visiting Fellow in LSE's Department of International Relations, will outline the design principles, strategy, progress and challenges of the new WHO Pandemics Hub in Berlin, a flagship initiative of Germany's G7 presidency in 2021.
Hassan has spent the last 2 years developing the strategy and organizational design for the new WHO Pandemics Hub in Berlin. In this seminar, he will discuss questions including:
- What are the most promising approaches for international institutions, at a time when issues like pandemics are increasingly recognized as meriting interstate cooperation, but the multilateral system is increasingly under strain?
- How can the UN system find its way within a landscape characterized by non-state actors, regionalism and "polylateralism"?
This will be followed by a discussion with LSE academics Professor Ken Shadlen and Dr Clare Wenham. The event will be chaired by Dr Mathias Koenig-Archibugi.
