Mahnoor Omer recognised in TIME Women of the Year list
Our MSc Gender, Peace and Security student Mahnoor Omer has been named as one of TIME magazine’s Women of the Year. Mahnoor, who is also a lawyer, is being recognised for her work challenging Pakistan’s ‘period tax’.
As part of this work, she took the government of Pakistan to court last September, sparking a national discussion of a traditionally taboo topic. Mahnoor says witnessing gender inequalities when growing up has instilled an “innate sense of obligation” in her: “I’m not free until every woman is free. I want to leave no stones unturned in terms of what I can do with the next few decades—as a lawyer for the women in my country and gender minorities in general.”
Please join us in congratulating Mahnoor on this amazing achievement!
