Hosted by the LSE Arts Lunchtime Concert Series
In-person public event (Shaw Library, 6th floor, Old Building)
Thursday 5 March 2026 1.05pm - 2pm

Join us this week for a fantastic performance by the duo Alice Neary (cello) and Tim Horton (piano).

Winner of several international prizes including the distinguished Pierre Fournier Award in 1998, Alice Neary enjoys a varied performing career as a chamber musician and principal cellist of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and tutor at the Royal Northern School of Music.

Alice's discography of some 25 CDs includes the Mendelssohn cello sonatas and concertos by Howells, Patterson and Tovey. Several works have been composed for her. Familiar to listeners of BBC Radio 3, her festival performances include BBC Proms chamber series, Malboro (USA), Bath International, Santa Fe (USA) and Lofoten. She frequently gives concerto performances with leading orchestras.

Tim Horton is one of the UK’s leading pianists, equally at home in solo and chamber repertoire, and is regularly invited to perform at major festivals and series across the country. Tim gave his debut solo recital at Wigmore Hall in 2016, since which time he has appeared there regularly as both soloist and collaborative artist, and where he is currently presenting his Chopin Cycle.

Performance to include:

Beethoven Sonata in G minor for cello and piano op 5 no 2

Brahms Sonata in F major for cello and piano op 99

The next lunchtime concert is on Thursday 12 March and will be performed by Ashley Fripp (piano).

Join the LSE Choir and Orchestra on Tuesday 31 March for the LSE Spring Concert in the beautiful surroundings of St Clement Danes Church.
