About me

Diego Wachs is a research consultant and an associate academic of the LSE Latin America and Caribbean Centre. His core research uses quantitative methods to assess the micro- and macroeconomic effects of population ageing on dependency, productivity, and fiscal sustainability. Diego is also interested in the intersection between social protection and macro-fiscal populism.

Diego gained experience in the application of econometrics across a variety of micro- and macro-policy areas at the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the International Monetary Fund. Amongst other projects, he prepared a meta-analysis of aged-long term care demand and supply in Greece. Diego developed a model to quantify the effects of population ageing on the fiscal sustainability, adequacy, and fairness of public pension and healthcare systems, and he also participated on related IMF technical-assistance assignments for government officials.

Diego holds PhD in Economics from Complutense University of Madrid with an international mention (University of Cambridge) and a Master’s in Applied Economics from Torcuato Di Tella University, Buenos Aires.
