Karsten Shaw is a Guest Lecturer in the Department of Statistics, where he teaches and supervises students on ST327 Market Research: An Integrated Approach and ST307 Aspects of Market Research.

He has more than 25 years’ experience in social and market research, having held senior analytics roles at Ipsos, GfK, Yonder and Basis Research. He now works independently with clients ranging from global consumer brands to UK public sector organisations. His expertise includes segmentation, conjoint and pricing research, key driver analysis, weighting and survey design, with a particular focus on applying advanced statistical methods to practical research challenges.

Karsten holds an MA in Economics and Statistics from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Statistics from LSE. His undergraduate dissertation explored competing theories of choice under risk, while his postgraduate thesis examined survey incentives and data quality using the GfK Home Audit panel. He is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, Vice Chair of its Social Statistics Section, and Co-Chair of the Market Research Society’s Advanced Data Analytics Group.
