About the LSE iQ podcast

We’re an award-winning podcast tackling the big economic, political and social questions of our times through the lens of cutting-edge academic research and the stories of everyday people.

As LSE’s flagship podcast, we’ve been on a mission since our launch in 2017 to show the importance of the social sciences in understanding today’s most pressing issues.

Each episode takes one intelligent question – the ‘iQ’ of our name – and looks at it from different expert perspectives. We might bring together a historian and a lawyer, an anthropologist and a psychologist, or a management expert and a social entrepreneur to explore a topic.

We also connect academic research with the real world by speaking to ordinary people about how the issues we’re exploring affect their lives.

We produce around eight episodes, between September and May, following LSE’s academic year.

We’re a small team made up of people from the Film and Audio and Media Relations teams in LSE’s Communications Division. We’re also supported by our colleagues in the Design Unit and the Social Media team.

Our work has earned us an Independent Podcast Award (2024) and a Guardian Education Award (2018), as well as a nomination for a British Podcast Award (2022). We also won two awards at the HEIST Awards for marketing innovation in further and higher education (2019).
