About me

I am a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and I am the Departmental Tutor for second and third year BSc Mathematics and/with Economics undergraduate students in the Department.

I received a PhD in ‘Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization’ from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University (USA). I joined LSE in 2010. Prior to that, I was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo (Canada) and then an Assistant Professor in the Mathematics Department at the University of Padova (Italy). My expertise is in optimization, predominantly integer optimization and combinatorial optimization. My research is mostly theoretical in nature, and it includes polyhedral methods for combinatorial optimization, development of efficient algorithms for structured optimization problems as well as of solution methods for general integer programs, in particular cutting planes methods. I was a co-recipient of the 2015 INFORMS Lanchester Prize. I am an associate editor for Operations Research Letters.
