Giannis Efthymiou is an Assistant Professorial Research Fellow in Innovative Pedagogy at the International Inequalities Institute with most of his research work focusing within the Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) programme. He holds a PhD in Global Learning/Global Citizenship Education from IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society, which he completed at the Development Education Research Centre. His research is closely located in the philosophy and practice of education practitioners and educationalists and how their perspectives could influence contemporary discourses. Influences from critical pedagogy and postcolonial notions further inform his theoretical positionalities. Prior to joining LSE, Giannis held a range of leadership responsibilities across formal education settings as well as academia leading on curriculum design and pedagogical approaches. His current research seeks to unveil notions of ‘innovative pedagogy’ within the higher education sector, as well as explore how education practitioners embed ‘global citizenship education’ across their practice.
