You will be requested to provide/upload the following information:

Statement of Academic Purpose

As part of your application, you are required to tell us about the following:

  1. Your academic journey so far. Your response should be about your experiences in your first year of undergraduate study, such as the courses you have taken; subject areas of particular interest; extracurricular activities related to your academic interests, and any challenges you may have faced. (Max 300 words)
  2. Why you have chosen to apply to the General Course and what you hope to gain from it? Your response should discuss your motivation for undertaking a year abroad and how you believe the General Course will help you achieve both your academic and personal/professional ambitions. (Max 300 words)
  3. The courses you would like to study at LSE and why you are interested in them. (Max 300 words)

Please ensure your responses are academically focused, and answer each question separately.

Transcript

You will need to attach an up-to-date transcript covering all of your university level study to-date. If you are in your second year of university, it should show all grades obtained up to the point of submitting your application, typically three semesters.

If you have transferred to your current institution from another university/college you will need to supply a transcript of your marks from your first institution as well.

All transcripts must be in English, or be accompanied by an official translation if they are in another language.

References

You will be required to provide the names and institution email addresses of two academic referees. It is advisable to select referees who are familiar with your academic work in fields relevant to your General Course application.

Your referees will be emailed and invited to complete a short questionnaire and upload their letter of reference. If your home institution collects academic references as part of their internal selection process these can be emailed to us directly by your Study Abroad Advisor at gc@lse.ac.uk.

Course Preferences

You will need to identify up to six courses of particular interest to assist us in assessing your application. At this stage these are indicative course choices, and will not necessarily reflect the courses you ultimately study at the School. Please read the information about choosing your courses before you apply.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis until all the available places have been filled. We therefore recommend that you apply as early as possible, and no later than 31 July 2020.
