Hosted by the Middle East Centre

RESEARCH CENTRES SUITE, 9TH FLOOR, PANKHURST HOUSE, CLEMENT'S INN, WC2A 2AZ

 Marrakesh-800-600

This workshop forms a key component of the project ‘North Africa’s GVC Integration in a Changing Global Economy', led by Dr Shamel Azmeh, Visiting Fellow at the LSE Middle East Centre and Lecturer at the University of Manchester, in collaboration with Dr Abeer Elshennawy, Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics, American University in Cairo.

The workshop explores a number of issues related to the position of North Africa (Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia in particular) in the global economy, including their adoption of export-oriented GVC-driven industrialisation policies in recent decades. The sessions will discuss issues related to trade policy, industrialisation, relationships with the EU, and implications of technological shifts on the region. The workshop will also include case studies from other geographic contexts for comparative perspective.

The full programme will be made available on Monday 6 January.
