Since 1895, LSE’s evidence-based approach to policy has transformed the way important decisions are made across the world. Our students and researchers not only become Nobel prize winners, presidents and significant leaders, but also schoolteachers, entrepreneurs and social workers.
The coronavirus pandemic is one of the biggest global challenges to occur since LSE’s inception, and the world will need our current and future students – critically engaged social scientists – to shape and lead economies, societies and industry, and to inform political, educational and healthcare policies.
Many of you are asking how you can help the School and offer support to our students. Thank you for your generosity and foresight.
We are committed to supporting our students at all times. We have identified three core funds through which you can help us to support our current and future students during this unprecedented period of uncertainty.
We would welcome your support and partnership. Thank you.
Student Hardship Fund
Our Hardship Fund helps by providing immediate one-off support to students acutely affected financially by the global pandemic. It supports current LSE students who need urgent financial assistance with expenses which might include living or accommodation costs, funds to travel home, and technology to continue their online learning. Now, more than ever, students who are experiencing financial difficulty as a result of the pandemic need the type of assistance this fund can provide.

Student Wellbeing Fund
We’re committed to making LSE a welcoming, inclusive and healthy place for all. Our vision is that together, we will shape our School so that everyone feels empowered to realise their potential, cope with challenges and contribute to our community.
Now more than ever, it’s critical that we support students’ mental health and wellbeing, so that everyone feels confident, connected and part of LSE, no matter where they are in the world.
This fund, in support of LSE’ Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework, will help us make our ambitions a reality, strengthening existing direct wellbeing provision, as well as increase awareness and normalise discussions about mental health in our community.

Student Support Scholarship Fund
LSE has always been committed to expanding our scholarship support, so that talented individuals from underrepresented groups can join our community, benefit from a world-class education and gain skills to make a positive impact on and lead communities worldwide.
While we can’t yet know the full impact of the pandemic, we do know that families’ incomes are being reduced and global economies constricted. Prospective students who might previously have aspired to come to LSE might struggle to do so.
Our Student Support Scholarship Fund, providing support for tuition and maintenance, will be even more essential as we seek to ensure that new students from 2020/21 onwards can take up their offers to study at LSE and reach their full potential, regardless of economic hardship.
