Meet an Alum sessions are informal opportunities to build your industry knowledge and make connections with General Course alumni.

In this session, you'll have the chance to meet alumni who work in the banking or financial sectors. You can ask the alumni about their day-to-day job, how they got into their role, and for any other career-related advice or tips they’ve picked up from their career journey so far.

This event will be particularly useful if you are:

  • thinking about the realities of a career in this area or a related sector
  • curious about the sort of work and responsibilities jobs in this area can entail
  • interested in finding out how utilising the experience of studying at LSE can be used to get ahead in this area
  • keen to build your connections

Meet the Speakers:

Baturalp Peltekoğlu (LinkedIn). Baturalp joined LSE from John Hopkins University to study on the General Course in 2013-14. Following his last term at LSE, he completed a 10-week summer internship programme at Barclays Investment Bank in London, where he received an offer to return as a full-time Investment Banking Analyst. Since then Baturalp has been working within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG), assisting financial industry clients (such as banking institutions, insurance companies, equity funds etc.) with merger and acquisitions advice. He has also worked with clients on more niche strategic advisory topics, including capital management, bancassurance and NPE deleveraging. He continues to work in Barclays FIG team and currently serves as a Vice President with a focus on region of Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey.

Carmen Arguedas (LinkedIn). Carmen joined LSE from Wellesley College to study on the General Course in 2006-2007 before graduating with a BA in Economics. After interning on the Foreign Exchange and Equity Finance trading desks at Barclays Capital, Carmen joined the Equity Finance Group at Barclays on a permanent basis in 2008. Carmen moved to Citigroup’s Equity Finance trading team in 2012, and most recently joined Morgan Stanley in 2019.
