Our Priorities

The LSE Department of Statistics works with industry, government and international institutions to advance applied data science — connecting world-class research with real-world impact.

Our partnerships focus on four priorities:

1. Applied data science research We work alongside partners to tackle complex analytical problems — from predictive modelling and causal inference to machine learning at scale. Partners gain access to cutting-edge methodology and dedicated research time from our faculty and doctoral researchers.

2. Student experience and talent Our students are among the most analytically rigorous in the world. We offer structured industry project programmes, summer placements and dissertation partnerships — giving your organisation fresh quantitative thinking while providing students with authentic professional experience.

3. Knowledge exchange and policy influence We translate statistical research into actionable insight for business and government. Through workshops, secondments and co-hosted events, partners benefit from direct access to LSE expertise in econometrics, risk, public health data and financial modelling.

4. International collaboration LSE's global reach enables multi-country research partnerships, international data initiatives and cross-border talent pipelines. We actively seek collaborators across Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas.

How to get started:

Reach out — contact our Partnerships team with a brief description of your organisation and the type of collaboration you have in mind.

Exploratory meeting — we arrange an introductory call with the most relevant faculty member or programme lead.

Shape the partnership — together we define scope, timeline, deliverables and any funding or IP arrangements.

Begin — most collaborations are up and running within one academic term.
