Our offer to partners

Partnering with the LSE Department of Statistics gives you direct access to some of the world's leading statistical minds, a pipeline of exceptional analytical talent, and a platform for genuine knowledge exchange at the intersection of academia and practice.

We offer six key ways to engage, from hands-on research collaboration to sponsored prizes and events in the heart of London. Every partnership is shaped around your objectives, whether you are a business seeking data-driven insight, an employer looking to recruit, or an organisation wanting to influence the next generation of statisticians.

Work directly with our faculty on applied statistical problems relevant to your sector. We offer both formal research partnerships — with defined deliverables, timelines and IP arrangements — and lighter-touch consultancy engagements for organisations seeking expert input on specific analytical challenges. Areas of particular strength include machine learning, causal inference, financial statistics, biostatistics and data science at scale.

Our MSc Data Science programme includes a compulsory capstone project in which small teams of students tackle a real-world data science problem set by an external partner. As a capstone partner, you define a challenge relevant to your organisation, and a team of students works on it over the course of the academic year — jointly supervised by your organisation and one of our academics. You receive a full project report and presentation, fresh analytical perspectives on a genuine business or policy problem, and early visibility of some of our most talented graduating students. Projects draw on the full range of skills taught across the programme, including machine learning, statistical modelling, distributed computing and data visualisation.

Our MSc and PhD students come from five distinct programmes — Data Science, Financial Statistics, Health Data Science, Quantitative Methods for Risk Management, and Statistics — giving partner organisations access to a genuinely diverse pool of analytical talent. Whether you need data scientists, financial modellers, health analysts or applied statisticians, our student community spans all of these disciplines and more.

We offer year-round opportunities for organisations to engage directly with that community, through project collaborations, internships, guest lectures and skills workshops. We are actively looking to deepen our relationships with private sector organisations who want ongoing, structured access to our talent pipeline rather than one-off engagements. If you are interested in building a longer-term presence within the department, we would welcome a conversation about what that could look like.

Support the next generation of statisticians through named scholarships, bursaries or annual prize funds. Sponsorship raises your profile directly with students and faculty, and positions your organisation as an employer of choice within one of the UK's most competitive graduate talent pools.

Our faculty includes internationally recognised specialists across probability, machine learning, econometrics, biostatistics and statistical theory. Partners benefit from access to this expertise through advisory relationships, invited talks, collaborative grant applications and shared use of methodological frameworks developed within the department.

We regularly host seminars, workshops and public lectures bringing together academic researchers, industry practitioners and policymakers. Partners can co-host events, sponsor speaker series, or participate in closed roundtables with faculty — creating direct channels for dialogue on emerging challenges in data, AI and statistical practice.
