Professor Thomas Hirschl has served on the Cornell University faculty for 36 years. His interest in social stratification over the life course is popularized in 'Chasing the American dream: Understanding what shapes our fortunes'. He is now turning his attention to comparative analysis in seeking an explanation for recent political, economic, and demographic changes in the United States.
