Dr Emma Soane joined the Department of Management in 2008. She teaches organisational behaviour, leadership and risk to postgraduate students and executives. Dr Soane's research examines how personality, team working and organisational environments influence decisions, performance and risk taking. Recent projects include studies of risk taking in financial decision making, group decision processes, and the organisation of risk. Dr Soane has extensive experience of studying public and private sector organisations, including government departments, local government, NHS hospitals, manufacturing, IT, television production, waste management and top-tier investment banks. She has published numerous articles and co-authored two books, “Employee Engagement in Theory and Practice” and “Traders: Managing risks and decisions in financial markets”.

 Dr Soane holds a PhD Psychology (University of Sheffield), an MSc Occupational Psychology (University of Sheffield) and a BSc Psychology (University of Leicester). She is a Chartered Psychologist, a Chartered Scientist and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Before joining LSE, Dr Soane worked as an assistant psychologist in mental health and learning disabilities services at several NHS trusts. She was a research fellow at London Business School and a senior lecturer then reader at Kingston Business School.
