Lord Dahrendorf Scholarships Available for 2009/10 Entry

The Department of Finance is pleased to announce that The Lord Dahrendorf Scholarships, supported by Deutsche Bank, will be available to students applying for entry into one of the Department's MSc programmes (see below) for the 2009/10 academic year.

The Lord Dahrendorf Scholarships, supported by Deutsche Bank, offer an exciting opportunity of funding to students from developing countries (with a preference for students from South America, Sub-Saharan African and ex-Soviet states) to study one of the following Masters programmes in the Department of Finance at the London School of Economics and Political Science:

  • MSc Management and Regulation of Risk
  • MSc Finance (Full-time)
  • MSc Finance and Economics

For 2009/10 entry each Dahrendorf Scholarship will be worth £18,046.

Applicants interested in the scholarships should first make a formal application to LSE to either the MSc Management and Regulation of Risk, MSc Finance (Full-time) or MSc Finance and Economics at LSE via the online LSE application form.

Once holding an offer of a place, eligible students are invited to apply for the Lord Dahrendorf Scholarship via the Financial Support Office at LSE. Scholarships will be awarded on a needs basis.

In 2008/9 eight Dahrendorf Scholarships were awarded to students from a range of nationalities.

"I come from Tajikistan, a beautiful and resourceful country, but a country destroyed by a civil war and beleaguered by poverty. Upon graduation from my Masters degree and a few years of experience, I want to return to my home country and contribute to the development of the economy and well-being of the people. I decided that a degree at LSE was the best step I could take towards my goals, however I also realized this was unattainable without financial assistance. I am honoured to be among the first group of students to receive the Lord Dahrendorf Scholarship."
Abdullo Kurbanov, MSc Finance and Economics

"I expect my year at LSE to be a unique learning and development experience, as I will be exposed to an exclusive and challenging curriculum taught by a remarkable faculty. I would like to thank Deutsche Bank and LSE for giving us this amazing opportunity!"
Simona Ionescu, MSc Finance and Economics
